| The Sussex Food & Drink Awards is principally judged by public voting, but each award category also has a judge from its sponsor company, who forms part of a judges panel chaired by Clive Beddall OBE. Nominees with the most votes are shortlisted and assessed by the category judge to ensure they are worthy finalists. This may include the judge visiting the nominee, either by appointment or in some cases unannounced, or telephone interview – each category has a set list of criteria to be judged against (this is outlined on the awards page). The judges will go with the public vote unless there is a strong case made by the individual judge for that category that an alternative finalist should move to winning position – in this case, the panel will consider this case at their November judging meeting to find consensus. Normally three finalists will be selected for each category and announced after the judges meeting in November and then invited to attend the awards dinner in January, when the winner will be announced.
You have one vote per category, per person.
Voting for the awards opens on 11th June and closes on 16th October and no further votes will be considered after this date.
The only exceptions to the above process is as follows:
For the Sussex Farmer of the Year award, nominations must be received by end July for judging assessment and a shortlist will be published on this website for public vote in August, with deadline for voting being 16th October. The winner will be selected by the public with no further judges intervention.
For the Sussex Young Chef of the Year award, nominations must be received by end July and a shortlist will be published on this website for public vote in August, with deadline for voting being 16th October. Finalists will be invited to a cook off in the autumn with a panel of experts selecting the winner. |
